FUNCTION OUTCOME SCALES AND LIFE QUALITY RECOVERY.

FUNCTIONAL OUTCOME SCALES AND FOLLOW-UP

The modified Rankin scale is one of the easiest scales for assessing the functional status and recovery after stroke. Your score consists of 7 steps going 0 (asymptomatic) to 6 (dead).

Initially it was used for evaluation of peripheral neurological diseases. Currently its assessment in stroke; requires some training to avoid interobserver or intraobserver variability. Any trial or study involving stroke that evaluate the effect of a treatment used and its researchers/investigators are required to be examined with clinical cases to obtain a certificate and recertify every two years.

This is achieved with a structured interview (check-list) that allows the patient to pigeonhole level Rankin scale. Key questions allow doubt to decide which score is correct.
